President Hamid stresses alertness to university students’ militant links

President Md Abdul Hamid has urged all to be aware of university students’ link to militants.

He made the call at the fifth convocation of Southeast University on Saturday.
 
“Teachers, guardians, university authorities – all will have to be aware so that students cannot get involved in unethical, militant or fundamental activities in the hope of coming by short-term benefits,” Hamid said.
 
He criticised ‘some private universities’ for reportedly ‘doing business in the name of education’. “It is unacceptable,” he said.
 

Higher education does not mean only getting degrees and high-salaried jobs. “The aim is to be perfect ideal human beings,” he said.

While dwelling on the high costs of education in the private universities, the president urged the universities to give attention to poor and meritorious students.

At the programme, 5,292 students received certificates and two were awarded gold medals on their meritorious results.
