Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion 41 Commander Shah Alam Choudhury confirmed the find.

He told bdnews24.com that the two-inch mortar was unearthed while some people at Upazila’s Amalshid were digging a pond.

“BGB recovered the shell after locals informed us,” he added.
According to the commander, troopers of India’s Border Security Force fired the shell during a gunfight between border forces in 2006.
The mortar shell might have remained unexploded as it fell into the pond, he added.
The shell has been kept at Sylhet BGB headquarters.
