SIU suspends 15 students over murder of BCL activist

Sylhet International University (SIU) authorities have suspended 15 students for their alleged involvement in the killing of another student of the institution, Kazi Habibur Rahman Habib, who was also an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

The university’s syndicate decided to suspend them, the institution’s Public Relations Officer Tarek Uddin Taj said.
 
The suspended students are Md Sagar Hossain, Alaur Khan Imran, Ilias Ahmed Punam, Anisur Rahman Anis, Mainul Islam Mainul, Ashik Uddin Ashik, Abdul Awal Sohan, Bashir Uddin Ahmed Tuhin, Sujan Mia,  Harun Rashid Harun, Kazi Kamrul Ahmed, Nayan Roy, Saidur Rahman Saimon, Biswajit De Bapan and Sayedur Rahman Suman.
 
They are all associated with the BCL.
 
Of them, 11 were temporarily suspended from the university on January 23.
 
Based on reports given by the five-member committee formed to probe the murder and by the Proctorial body, the syndicate decided to suspend the students and also bar them from continuing higher studies at the university.
  
Habibur Rahman Habib, a 4th year BBA student of the university, died on January 19 after he was attacked by the members of his organisation in the city’s Shamimabad area.
 
The following day, the victim’s elder brother Kazi Zakir Hossain filed a case against eleven Chhatra League activists.
