“OC AKM Shahin Mondol has been withdrawn and attached to Rajarbagh Police Lines following an order by the police commissioner,” Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain told bdnews24.com on Friday.

On Thursday, four policemen were withdrawn and later five, including these four, were suspended after victim Babul Matubbar died from Wednesday’s burn injuries.

His family alleged policemen hit the stove at his tea-shop, causing kerosene to splash out on his body.

They filed a case against ‘local drug dealers’ within hours of the incident but later alleged police forced them to file it to cover up their involvement.

The death of the tea-seller has drawn criticism even from Parliament and the ruling party.

An MP on Thursday demanded Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s statement on measures taken over the ‘despicable’ police action.

Kamal later told the media on the Parliament premises steps will be taken after investigation.

Ruling Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta on Friday insisted on the trial of the policemen involved in the incident within a month.

Dhaka City police have launched an investigation.
