Lawsuit filed against Chief Election Commissioner, six others in Narsingdi

A case has been filed against Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmad and six others in Narsingdi, blaming them for ‘anomalies’ in the municipal polls in Madhabdi.

Md Obaidur Rahman, a defeated councillor candidate, filed case in the first joint district judge’s court on Thursday.
 
A hearing will be held on Mar 1, Court Police Inspector Shahidur Rahman said.
 
The complainant has alleged that the poll in Madhabdi on Dec 30 had been suspended due to malpractices, but there was trouble again on Jan 12, the day of re-polling.
 
He has demanded the recounting of the votes cast in Ward 4.
 
Narsingdi’s DC, returning officer, election officer, presiding officer, the elected councillor and another defeated councillor candidate have been named in the case.
 
District Election Officer Rafiqul Islam said, “Anyone can file a suit if they feel there are anomalies. We are yet to receive the papers [of the case].”
