Jatiya Party MP Pir Fazlur Rahman’s demand on Thursday followed reports on the death of a tea-seller in alleged police attack.

Police have been facing sharp criticism over recent activities including the beating up of two public servants and a woman during search.

“Who are these people in police? Who are conducting such heinous activities to disturb the peaceful environment?” MP Rahman asked.

“They have debased the dignity of the entire police force,” he said.

He then demanded Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s statement under Rule
300, which does not allow supplementary question to be asked, to outline measures against the policemen linked to the incidents.

Tea-seller Babul Matubbar succumbed earlier in the day to burn injuries he received during an alleged attempt of extortion by police at Mirpur’s Shah Ali on Wednesday night.

“Some online newspapers have quoted his family members as accusing the personnel of that police station,” Rahman said.

On Sunday, an assistant sub-inspector of Adabar Police Station allegedly harassed a woman at Mohammadpur.

In January, Bangladesh Bank official Golam Rabbi was injured in alleged police torture at Mohammadpur.

Amidst criticism over the torture of Rabbi, Dhaka South City Corporation official Bikash Chandra Saha was beaten up by police officers at Jatrabarhi.
