“On every platform, India will extend support to Sheikh Hasina’s government whole-heartedly”, she said, when Bangladesh’s state minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam called on her in New Delhi on Thursday, the foreign ministry said.

They discussed a whole range of bilateral issues including connectivity and hydro-power projects.

They hoped that water-sharing issues would be resolved “soon”.

Swaraj also spoke about the Indian government’s initiative of translating Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s unfinished autobiography into Hindi.

The state minister was in India to attend the international conference on counter-terrorism in Jaipur that ended on Wednesday.

Swaraj expressed her country’s “strong resolve to work jointly with Bangladesh in fighting the menace of terrorism and violent extremism”.

She said India attached “great importance” to its relationship with Bangladesh, and thanked it for its cooperation in ensuring regional peace, security and stability.

The two leaders also expressed “satisfaction” over the implementation of the various agreements signed during the Dhaka visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June last year.

Swaraj also informed that she had instructed the authorities concerned to resolve the visa issues “at the earliest” when the state minister raised the matter of easing the visa for Bangladeshi travellers.
