It upheld the stay of the High Court bail for Jahangir Kabir Adel, the ruling Awami League’s Feni district unit Joint General Secretary, in the case.

A bench of the division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha issued the order on Thursday, disposing of a leave to appeal petition filed by Adel, an accused in the case.

The court said the trial court could consider bail for Adel if the trial was not completed within the six-month time frame.

The trial court earlier fixed Feb 10 for charges to be framed in the case.

Haq was killed in a daylight attack on May 20, 2014 when his convoy was waylaid.

His brother filed a murder case the same day, naming BNP leader Mahatab Uddin Ahmmed Chowdhury Minar as the prime suspect and accusing around 35 other unidentified persons of involvement in the killing.

Police later pressed charges against 56 persons, including Minar and Adel.

The trial court sent Adel to jail after he surrendered before it on Jan 12 last year.

He secured bail from the High Court on Nov 16 but the chamber judge of the Appellate Division stayed the bail upon a petition by the State.

Later Adel moved the Appellate Division.
