Six persons, including a Myanmar citizen, were arrested from the trawler with the contrabands on Wednesday.

Another person was arrested in Cox's Bazar based on the information provided by the six arrestees during initial interrogation.

RAB-7 Cox's Bazar camp chief Lt Commander SM Saud Hossain told bdnews24.com a team of the elite force chased and caught the trawler after it defied a signal to stop.

The arrested Myanmar citizen has been identified as MD Zobayer, 42, of Sutahara in Myanmar's Mongdu.

Five others arrested from the trawler are residents of Ukhia in Cox's Bazar.

Hossain said after interrogating the six arrestees they got the information about one Mohammad Mufiz of Kalatoli area of Cox’s Bazar.

He said 30,000 Yaba pills were seized from Mufiz's house. Though Mufiz was not present in the house, his associate Abdur Rashid was arrested from there.

Hossain said they suspected Mufiz was also the mastermind behind the attempted smuggle of 1 million Yaba pills that were seized on Jan 6.

RAB-7 Assistant Director ASP 'Amirulla' said the current market price of the seized contraband is estimated to be Tk 292 million.
