Rains are likely in the first half of this month, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) Chairman Shamsuddin Ahmed said on Wednesday.

Thunder storms have also been predicted for the last couple of days in February.

Rains are expected for two or three days, according to the forecast.

The temperature in the northern and central regions is expected to drop to eight degrees Celsius during the cold wave.

Two cold waves swept through the country in January. The first was mild and the lowest temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius was recorded in Dinajpur between Jan 11 to Jan 13.

It later developed into a moderate cold wave with the lowest temperature, six degrees Celsius, recorded at Gopalganj from Jan 23 to Jan 28.

The Met Office had then said there was no chance of another cold wave during the ongoing season.
