The chairman of BSS, the state-run news agency, was appointed to the post on Wednesday, a government statement said.

His predecessor, Mohammad Faruk, retired on Jan 9 after he turned 67, Information Commission Secretary Sadar Uddin Ahmed told bdnews24.com on Wednesday night.

Commissioner Nepal Chandra Sarkar has been acting as Chief Information Commissioner since then.

It was a four-year appointment but none above 67 years can remain in the post. Two commissioners Khurshida Begun Sayeed and Sarkar will work alongside the chief information commissioner.

The government on Aug 20 restructured BSS’s board of directors with a three-year term with Rahman as its chairman.
