System Administrator Emtiaz Raihanul Huq said he was held hostage for several hours on Tuesday.

He said he was waiting to catch a bus home at Uttara after office at Amtoli in Mohakhali in the evening.

A golden Toyota pulled up beside him and the muggers dragged him into it.

"There were four in the car. They tied my hands and legs and put dark glasses on my eyes. They took away my mobile phone, purse, and bag."

Huq said his laptop was in the bag.

His abductors then tried to draw money from an ATM booth using his credit and ATM cards.

They demanded Tk 500,000 from him as they found the money in his account was less than what they had expected.

They forced him to call his family and friends to pay up the sum.

When he failed to bring the money, they threatened to kill him.

Finally, they agreed to release him for Tk 100,000 when he managed the money from a friend.

After receiving the money in Tongi, the kidnappers dropped him at Basundhara.

Huq said it seemed to him the miscreants were not much educated, but they were tech-savvy.

"They checked the mail inbox on my mobile phone to guess my salary. They were calling someone 'Master' on their phones and changing SIM cards repeatedly to make the calls," he said.

Khilkhet police asked him to file a complaint with Banani police.

"The incident began in an area under Banani Police Station. I've spoken to them. They will record the complaint whenever he goes to them," OC Shahidul Haque said.

Huq said he will file the complaint with Banani police on Wednesday.
