Self-criticism must be integral to govt’s development efforts: President Hamid

President Md Abdul Hamid has said self-criticism should be made part of the government’s development endeavour.

He said the government was striving to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041, and added that “relentless efforts, cooperation, dutifulness and responsibility are needed to reach those goals".
 
The president was addressing the fourth convocation of Chittagong University (CU), of which he is the chancellor, on Sunday.
 
The university awarded degrees to 7,194 students of different faculties.
 
Graduates and post-graduates between 2004 and 2010, and PhD, MPhil, MS, medical science, nursing and general degree holders between 2008 and 2013 received certificates and chancellor awards.
 

Highlighting the fact that Bangladesh currently had over 100 private and public universities, President Hamid said, “Higher studies have expanded only on the periphery.
“But we need exert relentless efforts to attain international standards,” he said.
He also reminded the fresh graduates about their duty towards the society and the State.
“Remember, the society, the State and the working class have all contributed to bring you thus far,” he told the students.
He reminded everyone of the CU’s contribution to all democratic movements, including the 1971 Liberation War.
"Today's young generation is the nation's life force and will change the society. They must dream. Without dreams, there won't be any success. That's why their potentials must be developed with modern technologies and knowledge."
Speaking of Bangladesh's achievements in different fields, the president said, “Social discipline, democratic values must be upheld to continue the progress."
