Police said scuffles broke out between supporters of Abul Kalam and Jalal Uddin of Banchharampur Upazila’s Kalikapur on Sunday.

Locals said an altercation erupted between members and supporters of the two men’s families on Thursday night over playing loud music at a wedding ceremony. A case was filed with the local police the next day.

A fresh clash, involving local weapons, broke out around 8am on Sunday.

It ended soon but erupted again around 11am, when the two died on the spot after being hacked with sharp weapons, said Additional Superintendent MA Masud.

The dead have been identified as Abdus Salam and Lal Mia of Kalikapur Village.

The injured have been taken to different local hospitals and five of them are in critical condition.

“The situation is under control. Additional forces have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward incidents,” Masud added.
