What will the Metrorail be like?

The Dhaka Mass Transit Development Project authorities screened an animated video on how the Metrorail will ease the transport logjam in the capital by carrying 60,000 passengers every hour.

The project will cost Tk 220 billion, of which Tk 165.05 billion will be provided by Japanese aid agency JICA and the government will arrange the rest.

According to project documents, the construction of the metro project will be completed in 2019.

Twenty-four pairs of trains will run to and from Uttara and Motijheel via Mirpur and Farmgate. It will take less than 40 minutes to reach Motijheel from Uttara.

There will be 16 stations – Uttara North, Central and South, Pallabi, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-10, Kaziparha, Shewraparha, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, TSC, Press Club and Motijheel.
