School student kidnapped from Hathazari rescued in Guimara

Shoaib Akhter Apon, 12, a student of class seven, who was kidnapped from Hathazari Upazila in Chittagong district has been rescued nine days later from Guimara Upazila in Khagrachharhi district.

Apon was kidnapped on Jan 13. He was rescued on Friday and the leader of the kidnappers has been arrested. The boy’s kidnapping is attributed to his father’s involvement in a dispute over a store in Dubai.

On Saturday afternoon, Ismail Hossain of Hathazari Police said that till Friday six suspects had been arrested in connection with this incident. They are professional kidnappers 'Nuruddin', Shiblop Nath, Apu Das, 'Osman', 'Shohail' and Noor Uddin.

A resident of Sipatoli village under Hathazari Police Station, Nuruddin is the leader of this kidnapping gang while Apu Das and Osman are CNG drivers of the gang.

According to Ismail Hossain, Apon was kidnapped at gun point from Jesmin Bhavan, a house build by his father Kabir Hossain, a Dubai expatriate.

The boy’s mother Jesmin Akhter lodged a case.

A search expedition in Hathazari, Rangunia and Rangamati led to the arrest of five kidnappers.

“Based on information given by them, Apon was rescued and Nuruddin was arrested from Guimara on Friday” said the police officer.

Apon’s father Kabir resides in Dubai, where he had a feud with one Md Mostafa over the ownership of a shop.

“Mostafa ordered the kidnapping of the boy,” Ismail explained, “Those men are professional kidnappers. Nuruddin is involved in 10 more cases.”
