The mayor launched the appeal after inaugurating a campaign to clean the city in front of the Arts Building at the Dhaka University on Sunday morning.
“We spend more time in the city than we spend at home. So, it’s more important to keep the city clean than the households,” he said.
Saying that a single mayor and a handful of staff cannot make the city liveable, Khokan urged all to take responsibility.
“We need to nurture the city as we nurture our own houses. If needed, we all need to play the mayor’s role to build a clean city,” he added.
Besides keeping the streets clean, people should also have ‘clean thoughts’, the mayor commented.
He was hopeful about making progress with everyone’s help, leaving all negativities behind.
The Dhaka University and Dhaka South City Corporation have co-organised the cleaning campaign.
