Miazi Shahidul Islam Chowdhury of Additional Sessions Judge Court-1 in Narayanganj issued the order to this effect on Monday.

Additional Public Prosecutor KM Fazlur Rahman said the court had not framed charges on Monday as an accused in the case – former RAB official Tarek Sayeed Mohammad – was not produced before it on health ground.

Tarek was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Jan 3 after he had complained of chest pain.

Narayanganj City Corporation Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam, advocate Chandan Sarkar and five others were whisked away from Dhaka-Narayanganj link road on Apr 27 in 2014.

Their bodies were found floating on the Shitalakkhyya River several days later.
Islam’s wife Selina Islam and Sarkar’s son-in-law filed two separate cases over the murders with the Fatullah Police station.
Fazlur Rahman said lawyers of 22 accused had prayed for their bails after they were produced before the court at around 11:30am on Monday.
“The court turned down their pleas. It fixed Jan 27 as the next date for charge framing,” he added.
Investigators pressed charges against 35 people, including Ward-4 Councilor Nur Hossain, suspected mastermind of the murders, and three RAB officials in the cases.
Twenty-three of the accused are behind bars.
