Jamaat shutdown call over Nizami final verdict ends in gaffe
The Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a countrywide shutdown protesting the top court’s verdict, which upheld death for its chief Motiur Rahman Nizami.

But it messed up big time while putting out a statement on its web site, which read that the party calls for a dawn-to-dusk shutdown on Dec 7!
On Wednesday (Jan 6), the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Nizami who orchestrated the killing of Bangladesh’s best brains in 1971 through his ruthless militia.
The party later corrected its statement, which called the shutdown for Thursday (Jan 7).
Jamaat, which sided with the Pakistani forces in 1971, have been calling for shutdowns on days following verdicts by war crimes tribunal or Supreme Court that punished its leaders.
The apex court upheld death sentence for party’s Ameer (president) Motiur Rahman Nizami but acquitted him from three charges for insufficient evidence.
Out of the 16 charges levelled by the prosecution, the war crimes tribunal had found Nizami guilty on eight counts.
