Shahbagh Police Station OC Abu Bakr Siddique said Sajib’s wife Morsheda Begum filed a general diary (GD) on Monday.

According to the complaint, Sajib left his house at Chawkbazar in Old Dhaka for his work station DMCH on his motorcycle on Sunday morning.

His two mobile-phone handsets and his journalist’s identity card were found in a launch, MV Takwa, in Chandpur in the afternoon.

The 45-year-old reporter was working for daily Bangladesh Pratidin, and TV stations Banglavision, Somoy, Jamuna, and Independent Television.

His wife Morsheda told bdnews24.com he left his house at around 7:30am on Sunday.

A person called her on phone at around 1:30pm and said his handsets and ID card of Banglavision were with Chandpur naval police.

Referring to Chandpur naval police, she said an employee of the launch handed the handsets and ID card to them at around 1pm on Sunday.

The launch employee told police a person had jumped off the vessel near Muktarpur in Munshiganj, leaving his handsets and ID card behind.

Naval police, however, could not confirm his claim.

Muktarpur Naval Police Camp Sub-Inspector Yunus Hossain told bdnews24.com he had questioned many, including those who were fishing in the area at the time, but no one had reported seeing anyone jumping off a launch.

The Fire Service and naval police are looking for him in the area, he said.

Morsheda said Sajib had taken her and their two children to a restaurant for dinner on Saturday night.

He dropped them near their house after the dinner and said he was going to Tongi to visit a journalist who he said died in road traffic accident.

His mobile phone stayed switched off all night, but he returned early in the morning before leaving for DMCH, she said.

His motorcycle was found parked with the key on it at the place where he parked it regularly at DMCH, Inspector Mozameel Haque of the police camp there told bdnews24.com.

Shahbagh Police Station OC Siddique said the police were searching for Sajib following his wife’s complaint.
