On Wednesday morning, the home page of the Sonali Bank website was found carrying a notice by the hackers.

A picture of a hooded boy in black background sat above the notice—"Hacked By K1nGnCa’.

The hacker identified himself as a ‘Muslim Hacker’.

Sonali Bank is Bangladesh's largest state-owned bank.

When contacted by bdnews24.com at 9am, Sonali Bank's IT chief Sardar Nurul Amin said he had no knowledge of the hacking.

"I am not yet in office. Once there, I will check out," he said.

Around 10am, Amin said that the site has been restored. “We have informed the vendor to take measures to secure the site.”

In 2013, the bank lost $250, 000 after the password of one of its accounts was hacked. That was disclosed by the secretary of the government’s bank and financial institutions division M Aslam Alam last year.

In Nov 2012, it had come under fire for lending Tk 25 billion to a dubious company, Hall Mark Ltd, as it now seems almost impossible to recover the money.

In the last two years, several branches of the bank across the country experienced burglaries and heist.

Intelligence officials have recently warned that tech-savvy radicals may use hacking to raise funds for their jihadi activities.
