Two ‘robbers’ shot by police in Joypurhat

Two people have been shot while attempting a robbery in Kalai Upazila of Joypurhat, police say.

The incident took place at Panchshira Bazar early on Tuesday, Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam of Kalai Police Station said.

Police have detained four ‘robbers’ including the two injured -- Ziarul Islam, 25, of Bogra’s Sonatola Upazila, and Ranju Mia, 40, of Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj Upazila.

The others detained are Manik Mia, 17, of Shibganj Upazila and Mahamudur Rahman, 18, of Sonatola in Bogra district.

Ziarul and Ranju were admitted to Joypurhat Sadar Hospital.

OC Sirajul said the four along with some other ‘robbers’ were trying to break into a drugstore at Panchshira Bazar around 3:30am.

“When a police patrol opened fire on them, the others fled but four of them, including the bullet-hit ones, were held from there.”
