The accused include Sen Sumon, the vice president of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Magura unit, and ‘Tota’, the general secretary of the district’s Samabay League.

Two factions of the Awami League’s youth front Juba League fought pitched battles in the town’s Dowarparha locality on Jul 23.

Stray bullets killed Abdul Momin Bhuiyan and injured 34-week pregnant Najma Begum and the child she was carrying.

The baby, later named ‘Suraiya’, was born the next day with bullet wounds.

Magura Detective Branch officer Emaul Haq filed the chargesheet on Tuesday afternoon at the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court.

He said Abdul Momin’s son Rubel Bhuiyan had filed a complaint in connection with the incident, accusing 16 people.

One of the accused, Ajibor Sheikh, was killed in an alleged gun battle with police in August.

Police arrested 13 of the accused.

“We pressed charges against 17 persons, based on investigations,” the DB officer added.
