The forum’s Chairman Maj Gen (retd) KM Shafiullah made the demand on Monday at midnight at a programme welcoming December, the month of Bangladesh’s victory over Pakistan after nine months of war in 1971.

The programme titled ‘December: A Tale of Victory’ was held on the Dhaka University campus.

“[Bangladesh] should not maintain any diplomatic relations with Pakistan after the way it expressed concern, issued a statement and protested over the issue of the war crimes trial,” Shafiullah said.

He thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the trial of the war criminals.

“It will be better if we execute the other war criminals speedily,” he said.

He also urged the young generation to step forward to identify those acting against the interests of Bangladesh and bring them to book.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique was also present.

Pakistan summoned the Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Islamabad on Monday, a week after Dhaka protested its “brazen interference” in the war crimes trials.

Pakistani politicians previously reacted to the tribunal’s verdicts. The latest official reaction came after the execution of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.
