A court order was sent to the returning officer there on Tuesday evening.

The letter was signed by the Election Commission's legal department Deputy Secretary Mohsinul Haque.

EC officials said the court order had also put a hold on the collection and submission of nomination papers by the aspirants.

Three Mongla Port Municipality mayoral aspirants and nine councillor aspirants had collected the nomination papers until Tuesday.

The EC on Nov 24 announced the schedule for elections to 236 municipalities across Bangladesh setting Dec 30 as the date of the ballot.

But, the High Court in an order on Nov 18 postponed the polls schedule for Mongla Port Municipality by six months.
