Sylhet Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Abdur Rashid set the date on Sunday, Special Public Prosecutor Abdul Malek said.

The court framed murder charges against a former policeman and three others on Nov 17.

“The verdict is being issued within nine working days of the commencement of the trial,” Malek said.

The accused are former constable of the Airport Police Station Ebadur Rahman; Abdur Rakib, who claims to be the Sylhet district unit general secretary of the Ulama League, and police informers Ataur Rahman Geda and Mahib Hossain Masum.

All of them were present in court when the verdict date was fixed, Malek said.

The court recorded the testimonies of 28 witnesses from Nov 19 to Nov 26.

Malek said, “I have proved the charges against the four accused through the deposition of witnesses and arguments. I hope they will get the maximum punishment.”

Sayeed’s father Abdul Matin also sought their death sentence.

Defence lawyer Sheikh Ashraful Alam, however, claimed the witnesses were ‘weak’. “I hope the accused will be released.”

Sayeed, a Class-IV student of the Shah Mir Government Primary School in Sylhet City, was abducted on Mar 11.

The kidnappers demanded Tk 500,000 in ransom from his family.

Police recovered the child’s body from a house in Sunatala three days later.
