UN chief Ban lauds Bangladesh’s development under Hasina’s leadership

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has lauded Bangladesh's socio-economic progresses under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and hoped that the country will do even better in implementing the new development goals, SDGs.

He conveyed the appreciation when Bangladesh's new Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the UN Masud Bin Momen presented his credentials to him at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday.

He also appreciated Hasina's leadership in addressing the climate change and disaster-risk reduction issues at the international level, according to the Bangladesh mission.

The UN chief recalled his ties with Bangladesh starting from his engagement in establishing diplomatic relationship between his country South Korea and Bangladesh.

He was an officer at the foreign office in Seoul in 1972.

The permanent representative conveyed the greetings of the President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Hasina to the UN head.

He also appreciated him for hosting the World Humanitarian Summit which will be held next year.

The ambassador assured the secretary general of Bangladesh's active role in the fields of sustainable development, particularly as the current LDC Chair, peacekeeping and peace building.

Ban's wife was present during the credentials-presentation ceremony.

The ambassador appreciated her interest in addressing autism and invited her to attend the World Autism Awareness Day event next year to be hosted by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh.

Momen is the 14th permanent representative of Bangladesh to the UN. Prior to this assignment, he was the ambassador to Japan.
