US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat has met Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad and discussed Dhaka-Washington relations as well as the “complexities” of addressing extremist threats.

The embassy, after the meeting on Tuesday, said the ambassador reaffirmed the US commitment to cooperate with its partners in tackling the extremist threat.
She said Washington recognised the “complexity of the task that lies ahead in addressing the extremist threat”.
In addition, Bernicat underscored the fact that strong US-Bangladesh relations benefit the two peoples and promote regional and global security.
“We stand with the people of Bangladesh in countering the common threat that both our countries face,” she said.
The meeting took place at Ershad’s Baridhara residence. It was a “courtesy" call, sources in the Jatiya Party said.
