Juba League central committee deputy finance secretary Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar and expelled BCL leader Saiful Islam Limon are among the 62 accused named in the chargesheet.

On June 24, 2013, activists of the Juba League and BCL clashed in the port city’s CRB area over a railway tender bid of Tk 4.8 million.

Babar's follower, Juba League activist Saju Palit, and a child of the locality, eight-year-old Arman Hossain Tutul, were shot dead during the clash.

Police filed a case over the incident while Palit's mother filed another. The court ordered an investigation of the cases together.

Detective Branch Inspector Atiq Ahmed Chowdhury, who was tasked with the investigation after a change of investigation officers twice, submitted the chargesheet at Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Qazi Muttaqi Ibnu Minan said expelled BCL leader Limon's name is at the top of the list while Chittagong University BCL’s incumbent President Alamgir Tipu’s name has been placed at No. 7.

The Juba League’s Babar is in the 34th position on the list.

Former investigator of DB Inspector Jahedul Islam had said in June this year all the suspects were free on bail.

However, a number of police officers told bdnews24.com the probe had made no progress because all the suspects were supporters of the city’s two most influential political figures - Awami League’s city unit President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, who is also the city mayor.

Police accused 87 people in the case initially. Of them, 61 were named in the chargesheet. The name of another accused was included after investigation.

Investigator Atiq said the case had 37 witnesses.
