They emerged from Dhaka Central Jail at 2:52am early Sunday morning, about two hours after the execution of the convicts.

People gathered outside the prison were shouting slogans of "Joy Bangla".

DMP spokesperson and Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam told reporters that the bodies of the executed criminals were being taken to their native regions for burial.

Chowdhury’s family wished to bury him at Raujan in Chittagong district while Mujahid’s body was on the way to Faridpur.

Former Al-Badr commander Mujahid, 68, was sentenced to death in 2013 for the murder of intellectuals and killing of Hindus during the Liberation War.

Salauddin Quader, 67, was handed the death penalty for the killing of Hindus and Awami League supporters in 1971.

Both served as ministers— Mujahid under Khaleda Zia and Salauddin under military dictator HM Ershad.

Salauddin also served as parliamentary affairs advisor to Khaleda Zia.

They were executed at 12:55am early on Sunday morning at Dhaka Central Jail.
