BNP leader Salauddin Quader and Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid were hanged at 12:55am on Sunday.

Jamaat has called a shutdown for Monday to protest the execution of Mujahid.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque spoke about heightened security when the jail authorities were preparing for the execution late on Saturday.

“All the police personnel have been asked to be on alert to prevent violence,” he said.

“We are prepared to provide the public with security,” he said.

“No-one will be spared if they tried to act violently,” he added.
