Shamim Ahmed, who had been sentenced to seven years in prison for the July 2015 murder, surrendered before the court of Sessions Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha on Sunday, said Public Prosecutor Mafur Ali.

The court scrapped his bail petition and sent him to jail, he said.

Ahmed is the brother of the prime suspect Kamrul Islam, who has been given the death penalty for Samiul Alam Rajan’s murder on Jul 8.

The 13-year-old boy was beaten and tortured to death for alleged theft at Sylhet’s Kumargaon.

One of those torturing the boy filmed and released the shocking footage on a social networking site.

The 28-minute video clip created a firestorm on the social media.

The trial kicked off on Sep 22 after 13 people were charged with murder.

In its verdict delivered on Nov 8, the court ordered death penalty for four persons.

It acquitted three, ordered life imprisonment for one, and gave seven-year prison terms for three along with one year in jail for two others.

One of the death-row convicts Zakir Hossain Pavel Ahmed is still absconding.
