The route connects capital Dhaka with the southern region.

BIWTC’s Mawa terminal Manager Abdul Alim said ferry services resumed around 8:30am on Thursday after the fog lifted.

Five ferries had been stranded mid-river with several thousand passengers and over a hundred vehicles on board since 5am.

About 300 vehicles were also stuck on both sides of the route.

Alim said they had suspended operations as visibility came down to zero as dense fog accumulated suddenly.

“We had put ferry services on hold to avert accidents,” he said.

Fourteen ferries, including three Ro-Ro ferries, were now plying on the route, he added.
