Four of a family and their house help were injured in the explosion at east Ashkona in Dakkhin Khan.

DMCH police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haq said Rehana Akter, 40, and house help Sakhina Begum, 42, died at the hospital on Thursday.

Both had sustained between 40 and 45 percent burns, he said.

Fire Service officials say they suspect the gas line, connected to the kitchen, had a leak. The line exploded after the house help ignited the oven.

Akter’s husband Abul Kashem is an expatriate Bangladeshi.

Three others being treated at the DMCH are the couple’s sons Rezwan Ahmed Shuvo, 16, and Tanvir Ahmed Niloy, 12 and daughter Afsana Akter, 19.
