He was working as the chief scientific officer of the medical sociology department at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research, the government's disease control arm.

The health and family welfare ministry, in a statement on Monday, attached him to the Directorate General of Health Services as an OSD.

OSD is a post that usually blocks one’s scope of work.

“The order (on Husain) has been issued in public interest with immediate effect,” the circular read.

Former DUCSU general secretary Husain took part in the ‘90s anti-autocratic movement.

On Friday, he expressed solidarity with students demanding fresh admission tests alleging a question paper leak.

The health minister, however, has dismissed all allegations of such foul play.

Husain studied food and nutrition at the Dhaka University after completing his MBBS from Dhaka Medical College.

The JaSaD Chhatra League leader was elected the DUCSU general secretary in 1989.

He obtained his PhD from Cambridge University.

There are allegations that he was not appointed a Dhaka University teacher on political grounds.
