In a statement on Monday, she said Oli’s election was a “reflection of the trust and confidence” of the Nepalese people and its Parliament.

Oli secured 338 votes of 598 lawmakers on Sunday in the prime ministerial contest in Parliament, comfortably defeating Sushil Koirala of the Nepali Congress.

He was sworn in as the new prime minister on Monday to head an eight-member Cabinet.

Hasina, in the statement, hoped Oli’s experience as a distinguished political leader would enable him to guide Nepal towards socio-economic growth.

She said Bangladesh values its ties with the Himalayan country and recalled its support during the Liberation War.

The prime minister hoped the bilateral ties would be further strengthened.

“I look forward to working closely with you to not only promote our bilateral relations but also in the regional forums of SAARC and BIMSTEC and other multilateral and international forums to uphold our common interests,” Hasina was quoted as saying in the statement.
