Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman told bdnews24.com on Thursday that a low over the North Bay and its adjoining area had concentrated into a well-marked low.

As a result, a deep convection was taking place, he said.

“So, the maritime ports in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to hoist the local cautionary signal No. 3,” he added.

All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to move close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

The Meteorological Department also forecast light to moderate rain was likely to occur in the southern districts.

Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by gusty or squally wind was likely to occur in most places in the Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions, the Met office said in its forecast for Friday.

A few places in the Khulna and Rajshahi divisions and one or two places in Rangpur division could also expect similar weather, it said.

Meteorologists expect conditions to improve by Sunday.
