In his Facebook post, Joy quotes “information from a reliable source” to back his claim.

“They have done this in a desperate attempt to turn foreign governments against our country and destabilise it,” reads Joy’s Facebook post on Wednesday.

Explaining the credibility of the source, Joy said he got information “from within the BNP in London”.

During a media interaction on Sunday, Hasina said the BNP-Jamaat had “definitely abetted these murders in an attempt to undermine Bangladesh's achievements”.

The BNP, however, described the prime minister’s comments as ‘irresponsible’ and ‘uncalled for’.

“Irresponsible remarks by top leaders in the government will not only hamper the investigation but will also create difficulties in identifying  the real killers,” BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a statement.

On Sep 28, Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella was shot dead by assailants on a motorcycle at Dhaka's Gulshan area. Five days later, Japanese national Kunio Hoshi was murdered the same way in the northern district of Rangpur.

Middle East based radical group Islamic State (IS) has reportedly claimed responsibilities for the killings, but the Bangladesh government says they are yet to find any evidence of their involvement.

Indian intelligence has also discounted the possibility of IS' involvement with the twin murders.
