Three police officials going to Saudi Arabia to bring back Rajan murder suspect Kamrul

Police are sending three officials to Saudi Arabia to bring back Kamrul Islam, the prime suspect in the case over the brutal murder of Sylhet teenager Samiul Alam Rajan.

They will go to Saudi Arabia on Oct 12, according to a media release issued by the Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
 
The three officials are Police Headquarters Additional Superintendent Mahabubul Karim, Sylhet Metropolitan Police’s Additional Commissioner Mohammad Rahmat Ullah and Assistant Commissioner AFF Nezam Uddin.
 
After torturing 13-year-old Rajan to death at Kumargaon on July 8, Kamrul fled to Saudi Arabia.
 
The officials in the Bangladesh mission in Saudi Arabia detained and handed him over to police there after a video of the torture, posted on a social networking site, created uproar.
 
Police in Bangladesh then took step to bring him back through the Interpol, which later issued a red corner notice for Kamrul.

Police in the media statement said Saudi Arabia agreed to deport Kamrul following the foreign ministry’s request.

In the video Kamrul was seen to be more active than others in torturing Rajan.

The trial in the case has already begun in a Sylhet court. It recorded witnesses’ accounts on Wednesday.

SMP Detective Branch Inspector Suranjit Talukder, who is investigating the case, submitted the chargesheet naming 13 on Aug 16.

Police have arrested 10 of those accused, including Kamrul’s brothers Ali Haider and Muhit Alam.

His another brother Shamim Ahmed is among the three fugitives.
