Keraniganj police OC Inspector Zinnat Ali said Ishaq, 35, was nabbed with the help of locals on Wednesday morning.

He said Ishaq, who has a past criminal record, had  hacked and strangled his wife Sahera, 30, and step-son Faysal, 8, to death at Keranigabj’s Bandnazarganj.

Ishaq's step-daughter Zannat, 11, has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital with deep cuts on her head and both her hands.

All three were victims of the murderous assault by Ishaq, who married Sahera last year after serving 12 years in a Noakhali jail in a case under Arms Act.

Zannat and Faysal are Sahera's children from her previous marriage. Sahera is the sister-in-law of Ishaq's elder brother.

The couple had moved into a ten-roof house on rent at Bandnazarganj.

Inspector Zinnat Ali, quoting locals, said Ishaq attacked Sahera and her children past midnight after an argument with his wife.

"He first strangled his son with a piece of cloth. Then he attacked his wife who had several cut wounds on the neck," Zinnat Ali said.

He said neighbours were alerted when his step-daughter started screaming.

Locals rushed in and wrestled Ishaq down and called police.

"Possibly Ishaq was trying to strangle all three to death but after he killed Faysal, Sahera and Zannat woke up and he then attacked them with a sharp weapon," Zinnat Ali said.

Ishaq has been sleeping since his arrest. Zinnat Ali said he seems to be under the influence of 'some drug.

The dead bodies have been sent to Salimullah Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
