Forest officials detain two people with 800 birds in Gazipur

Forest department officials in Gazipur have detained two men with 800 birds they suspect were to be smuggled out of the country.

Forest Conservator Tapan Dey said that two people were detained with birds from the district’s Riaznagar area.
 
The birds include 420 munias  and 380 local variant of parrots.
 

“We nabbed them after a definite tip-off.  The birds had been  caught  from northern districts and were to be smuggled out of the country,” Dey told bdnews24.com adding the birds will be released at the botanical garden in Dhaka.
The two, who were held with the birds, year given one-year prison term by a Magistrate-led mobile court under the wildlife laws.
