Police says there has been no trace of the four since Saturday.

Bandarban’s Ruma police station OC Shariful Islam told bdnews24.com on Monday that a combined group of police and the army have launched an operation to trace them.

The missing tourists have been identified as ‘Munna’, 34 and ‘Zubayer’ 26, who came from Dhaka, said Bilachharhi Upazila police in Rangamati district.

Locals said the tourists and their guides were abducted around 3pm on Saturday from Bilachhari’s Natunpukur area, at the furthest end of Bandarban’s Ruma Upazila.

The local guides who have been abducted are Mansai Mro and Lal Ring Chang Bom, said Bilachharhi’s Bortholi Union Parishad Chairman Ato Mong Marma.

“A group of 10-12 armed men nabbed six persons, including those four. The men were wearing uniforms similar to the army and speaking Myanmar language,” he told bdnews24.com.

The other two kidnapped were Avirang Tripura and Manindra Tripura of Sepru Parha in Bilachharhi.

“The abductors told them to lead to the borders with India. Upon reaching the border they let Avirang and Manindra go. After returning, Avirang and Manindra said the four were still detained by the armed men,” said the UP chairman.

But the motive behind the abductions is not clear—neither is the identity of those responsible for the abductions.
