Eight held in Mymensingh for suspected links with Islamic State

Police have detained for questioning eight persons for their suspected link with the radical Islamic State in Mymensingh.

Earlier on Friday, police also detained a teenaged schoolboy in Mymensingh on same suspicion.
 
Five of the eight were detained on Saturday.
 

They have been identified as Helaluddin, 20, Md Zunaid, 26, Masud Mia, 22, Majibur Rahman, 20, and proprietor of Nabin Telecom Centre Badiul Hasan, 20.
Ishwarganj Police Station OC Borhan Uddin said two PCs, two mobile phones, a modem and a pen drive were also seized from the mobile phone shop, Nabin Telecom Centre.
The OC said three others were detained on Friday night.
They are doctor Abdur Rashid, his son Mizanur Rahman and one Haider Ali.
SP Moyeenul Haque said the police suspect the detained schoolboy was a IS sympathiser, but his link with the terrorist group was not established yet.
The tenth-grader was nabbed from a school at Ishwarganj Upazila while he was distributing posters and leaflets with ‘Call from Middle East’ written on them on Friday.
On Saturday night, IS claimed the responsibility for the murder of a Japanese national in Rangpur. The group also claimed credit for the killing of an Italian citizen in Dhaka on Sep 28.
