Sylhet metropolitan unit Awami League President Badruddin Ahmed Kamran said the prime minister got in touch with officials immediately after she touched down at Sylhet.

Hasina returned to Bangladesh on Saturday. The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying her landed at Sylhet after 11am.

She then took a flight to Dhaka and arrived in the capital around 1pm.

Around 11am, Japanese national Kunio Hoshi was shot dead in the northern district of Rangpur within six days of the murder of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella in Dhaka.

During her stopover in Sylhet, Hasina met with local Awami League leaders and lawmakers.

Sylhet metropolitan unit AL chief Kamran told reporters that they had discussed the murder of the two foreigners with her.

Kamran said the prime minister ordered the authorities to track down those responsible for these murders.

“At a time when Bangladesh’s reached an honourable position among the world leaders, some unwanted incidents, situation are created,” Kamran said quoting Hasina.

“These aim at destroying Bangladesh’s image,” the Sylhet AL leader quoted the prime minister as saying.

“The prime minister said, ‘We do not want any untoward incident’.” he added.
