Police detain schoolboy for suspected 'Islamic State' links in Mymensingh

Police in Mymensingh have detained a schoolboy for suspected links with the Islamic State (IS), the radical Middle East- based group.

The tenth-grader was nabbed from a school at Ishwarganj Upazila while he was distributing posters and leaflets of the Islamic State.
 
Ishwarganj Police OC Borhan Uddin said that the schoolboy was detained on Friday afternoon from a school.
 
“He has claimed to be a supporter of the IS during interrogation. He has been handed over to the Detective Branch for further questioning.”
 
Police in Bangladesh have detained quite a few suspected IS activists during the last one year. Among them is a UK citizen of Bangladesh origin.
  
IS claimed responsibility for the murder of Italian national Cesare Tavella in Dhaka but Bangladesh intelligence doubts the group's direct involvement with the killing.
 
On Saturday, another Japanese tourist was shot dead in Rangpur by assailants on motorcycle in much the same way the Italian aid worker was murdered.
