He made the suggestion at a programme at the auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday. The programme was organised to felicitate those children of DRU members who excelled in this year’s SSC and HSC examinations.

Dwelling on the issue of public examination question papers leak, the minister said, “No matter how advanced the technology may be, the criminals will always be a step ahead. I am for changing the education system.”

“Who will keep watch on the question papers during examinations which are stretched over one and a half months? We need to develop a system to stop question paper leak and to ensure that examinations are over within five to seven days.”

Refuting the allegation that government often denies incidents of question paper leak, the minister said it was he who informed journalists after question paper was leaked in 2014.

Nahid said the government was trying to resolve the grievances of agitating teachers of public universities and urged them to take classes and admission tests.
The former Left leader, who himself was associated with several education movements, however, criticised some of the actions of the teachers.
“We (government) provide 100 percent fund to the public universities, but we have zero control over them.... The same teacher who is not interested in teaching in the class will go to houses of students to give tuition,” he said.
For the recruitment of teachers, he said, a separate commission will be formed soon along the lines of Public Service Commission.
