Only a few of them got the new fare chart on Friday.

Many of the drivers alleged they were yet to get the new rate chart from Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

The pressure of commuters was, however, less on the public holiday.

The allegation of overcharging was made more against ‘local’ bus services which halt on every stoppage.

Most of the ‘sitting services’ were yet to charge the new fare.

The government on Sep 10 announced that fare for buses would be up from Tk 1.6 per kilometre to Tk 1.7 and for minibus, from Tk 1.5 to Tk 1.6 per kilometre from Oct 1.

As per that announcement, the passengers should now pay Tk 1 more for a 10-kilometre journey. But the bus operators charged Tk 2 to 4 more for the journey.

The local buses charged Tk 6 in place of Tk 5 and Tk 10 in place of Tk 7 to 8.

Operators of a Gulistan-Dhaka Zoo route bus charged Tk 5 more for the journey from one end to another.
The distance between the places is not more than 16 kilometres, which means the raise should not have been more than Tk 2.
After hiking CNG price, the government fixed fares of CNG-run bus, minibus, and auto-rickshaw for Dhaka and Chittagong cities on Sep 10.
The new fare of auto-rickshaws will be effective from Nov 1.
