Abdus Jaher, 35, was found dead in Chandraganj after an exchange of fire between police and robbers in the early hours of Wednesday, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Zuanyed Kawser.

Jaher was a suspect in the murder of Chandgraganj Unit AL leader Omar Faruque. He faced charges in several others cases of murder and robbery, said the police officer.

Police raided Latifpur village following a tip-off on a gathering of robbers.

“The shootout started when the robbers opened fire sensing police presence. Jaher’s body was found on the spot after the others fled,” said ASP Kawser.

Police recovered a firearm and four rounds of ammunition form the spot.
