Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has sent a proposal in this regard to the Road Transport and Highways Division.

After a meeting of the parliamentary committee on the road transport and bridges ministry on Wednesday, its member Nazmul Haque told reporters that the process to cut the fee was underway.

“The committee is also of the view that motorcycle registration fee should be reduced,” he said.

A statement from the Parliament Secretariat said the registration fee was raised by 40 percent on Jan 1, 2014.

After the hike, the registration fee for 80cc motorcycle, including that for digital number plate, became Tk 13,913, for 100cc Tk 19,663, and over 100cc Tk 21,273.

The statement said: “The BRTA’s suggestion for reducing motorcycle registration fee by a reasonable rate by waving off the 40 percent enhanced registration fee until Dec 31, 2015, is being considered by the Road transport and Highways Division.”
