In a foreign travel advice update on Monday, it also advised its officials “to limit attendance at events where westerners may gather”.

“There is a general threat from terrorism. In late September 2015, there is reliable information that militants may be planning to target western interests in Bangladesh,” read the warning.

The UK has updated its travel advice days after Cricket Australia decided to delay its cricket team’s tour to Bangladesh over security concerns.

“There is reliable information to suggest that militants may be planning to target Australian interests in Bangladesh,” Australian Foreign Affairs and Trade office earlier issued this warning that prompted the Cricket Australia to take the decision.

Amid their concerns, an Italian citizen was shot dead in Dhaka on Monday evening at the heart of diplomatic enclave in Gulshan.

However, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and law-enforcing agencies tried to allay security concerns of Cricket Australia when its security head was meeting them on Monday.
